RON PAUL – ROBERT MANSFIELD: That Ticket Could Win.

Ron Paul, as everyone knows by now, has a problematic issue concerning a few statements from his newsletters through the years that appear racist. I do not believe Ron Paul is a racist, but I do not believe he has handled the issue perfectly either.

Ron Paul placed his name on five newsletters, but he didn’t write them all. The comments were few and far between, and could have slipped through beyond his awareness. Still, if something goes out with your name on it, you should know what’s in it. And since we are trying to choose a President who will be a responsible leader, I have not been pleased with Ron Paul’s handling of this matter. Instead of getting flustered, he ought to show more of a humble nature in his defense. I dropped my support of Ron Paul because of his failure to respond humbly and with compassion.

If Ron Paul wants to win my support back, and the support, I think, of many who cannot simply give him a pass on this issue, he needs to choose an African-American running mate. That would go a long way towards making things right, and proving he did not approve of those messages.  And I think I’ve found the perfect running mate for Ron Paul. His name is ROBERT ALLEN MANSFIELD, and he’s just announced his candidacy for Congress in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Mansfield is a Black Tea-Party Republican.  I came upon his story on a very cold morning in Philadelphia over the Martin Luther King weekend. I was playing in a chess tournament, went to get breakfast, and was freezing my butt off on the way to the diner. I like to read “The Philadelphia Weekly”, a city free paper, for the latest news on local Philly arts and dining whenever I’m in town. But on this morning, it was so damn cold, I didn’t even want to take my hands out of my pockets to grab a copy. I walked right by it. But my little voice inside pulled me back to it anyway, and when I opened the paper up with my breakfast, Mr. Mansfield was staring back.

His story is inspirational. This 40-year-old war veteran was born to a heroin addicted mother, and he was also addicted at birth. His mother gave him up for adoption, and he never met her. He spent the first seven days of his life kicking junk as an infant. He survived that, and was placed in foster care from day 1. He was molested at 9, and raped at 16. He spent time as a homeless person, but while homeless he advocated to the community on behalf of the homeless. He pulled himself out of that situation, joining the National Guard in 1995, and remained there until 2010, when he was honorably discharged. While fighting in Iraq, he suffered a serious injury that requires him to walk with a cane.

While in the Guard, Mr. Mansfield worked in financial consulting and began several small companies. You may read the Philly article here.

My impression of Mr. Mansfield is very positive. This is a man who has something to give, and I am touched by his story. This is a real person, not a career politician. This is a person who was forced to fight for his life from his very first heart beat. We need to give people like this a chance to lead.

Ron Paul may want to consider Mr. Mansfield as a running mate. That would shake things up quite a bit. I don’t know Mr. Mansfield personally, or if he would be interested in running for V.P. But even if Ron Paul simply expressed an interest, and publicly reached out to Mr. Mansfield, that would help Robert’s stature and bring his candidacy for Congress much needed attention.

It’s time for the ordinary working class people to take back control of this country from the Washington D.C. federal beast vampire hive.
